RPDR: Season 9 Episode 4: “Good Morning Bitches”

Can I get an Amen for the lack of three awkward anti-climatic minutes post-Ru’s entrance?

Also praise-worthy is the way this is transforming into the Season of Maturity. Between Sasha standing her ground over an insensitive statement about eating disorders, and Aja’s confession about projecting her insecurities onto others (after three episodes of a pretty unfavorable edit- hello, Facetuned Instagram selfie sequence), we’re seeing a season of the most self-aware queens yet.

With self-awareness comes insecurity and self-doubt. It’s straight-up sad to watch such creative and potentially powerful queens like Nina tear up the runway only to tear up, and to watch Charlie Hides dim her own light purely out of fear. No one else cared that she’s older, but she used that as a convenient excuse to view herself as incapable of performing at the same level as the other queens. It’s like how the Phantom of the Opera hid himself away because he felt ugly, but the real reason why he was discarded from the world was because he was manipulative and controlling. (Charlie Hides doesn’t share any of those attributes, but you get the idea).

To be fair, it was probably impossible to lip-sync successfully in Charlie’s shoes (which were amazing). While I don’t think Trinity deserved to be in the bottom two- her dropping of the ball in the challenge reminded me of Kimora’s tragic elimination due to her similarly irrelevant-to-drag monkey performance- at least she had another chance to  show she’s fabulous and SLAY.

I’m glad Sasha and Shea finally got the recognition they deserve by winning the challenge. If only Aja’s look (her best yet, in my humble onion) got some AIRTIME in the blink-and-you-miss-it runway. Same with Cynthia, whose look SLAYED. TBH, this was a pretty solid runway all-around.

STRAY NOTES:

~ Why was Eureka wearing a backpack while they were picking teams?

~ ”Do you think we should do ghetto accents?”

~ What is this challenge “live” on?

~ In the challenge, Nina & Shea’s makeup was FLAWLESS.

~ It was weird how they played drama music during Trinity and Peppermint’s banter in beginning of the challenge, before they even started bombing. Why is this season’s post-production so consistently questionable?

GoodBYE Bitches!
