Julie J

Julie J is a New York City–based drag queen, writer, interdisciplinary artist and community organizer whose work sits at the intersection of drag performance, experimental theater and Black queer cultural memory. She earned a BA from Sarah Lawrence College (Theater Performance and Direction, 2018) and has trained at Upright Citizens Brigade and La MaMa Umbria's Directors Symposium; in 2019 she was named one of La MaMa's Next Generation Artists. She produces Sylvester, a monthly all-Black drag variety show, and founded Stand Up NYC, a nightlife fundraising initiative that has raised over $108,000 for LGBTQIA+ organizations. In 2023 she was crowned Miss Bushwig, and in 2024 she took home Entertainer of the Year at the Glam Awards.
