Wigs by Vanity is a wig house founded in 2003 by Vanity and her partner Courtney Act, built on the premise that the high-quality lace-front wigs RuPaul was wearing on early Drag Race should be accessible to working queens rather than reserved for a handful of stars. The company sourced wigmakers internationally and Vanity herself learned the craft of lace-front construction, eventually landing on a hybrid method — machine-made caps with hand-ventilated hairlines — that let them ship a professional lace-front at a fraction of the old price point. Their signature style is the Uber Riah, and their catalog spans the GlamaRiah, Glam n Go and Character Range collections, made explicitly for drag queens, showgirls, cross-dressers, bio queens, cosplayers and theatre performers. Notable clients over the years have included RuPaul, Bianca Del Rio, Alaska Thunderfuck, Willam Belli and Katya Zamolodchikova; the brand even created a limited shade dubbed The Shade of RuPaul.
